Notes
According to information in the forum post Whitney- Vermont to Michigan on GenForum.com, Horace Dexter Whitney was born in Addison Co., VT.
In 1830, the following Whitney families are found in Addison Co., VT:
- Benjamin F. Whitney, Addison
- David Whitney, Addison
- Oliver Whitney, Goshen
- John Whitney, Middlebury. Was this perhaps John, brother of Oliver Whitney of Goshen, whose dau. resided Ann Arbor, MI?
- Levi Whitney, Salisbury
- Oliver Whitney, Salisbury
- John Whitney, Shoreham
- Josiah Whitney, Shoreham
However, Horace Dexter Whitney was b. ca. 1826, so there should be a son listed in the 0-5 age range in the household. Removing families where this is not the case leaves us with:
- Oliver Whitney, Goshen
- John Whitney, Middlebury
- Oliver Whitney, Salisbury
- John Whitney, Shoreham
- Josiah Whitney, Shoreham
Also, just in case Horace was actually b. ca. 1825 and thus could have been listed as age 6-10, the following family should also be considered
- Levi Whitney, Salisbury
Notes:
- John Whitney of Middlebury has not been identified, nothing is known of his family.
- John & Josiah of Shoreham have not been identified, nothing is known of their families.
These are the 3 families where research should probably be concentrated.
