James Curran⁸ Whitney (Peter⁷, Stephen⁶, Phineas⁵, Isaac⁴, Nathaniel³, Benjamin², John¹), son of Peter⁷ and Laura S. (Farley) Whitney, was born 25 Aug 1848 or 1849, Burr Oak, MI, and died 27 Dec 1917, Adrian, MI.

He married, 26 Nov 1874, Winfield, MI, Mary W. Stringham,^[1] daughter of Thornton Niven and Lydia (Arnold) Stringham. She was born 25 Dec 1850, Eaton Rapids, MI, and died 22 Jan 1938, Adrian, MI.

i.	Carrie9 Whitney, b. 3 Sep 1875, Onondaga, MI.[2] Possibly the same as the next child.
iii.	Perry Whitney, b. about 13 Sep 1875; d. 22 Apr 1877, Onondaga, MI, aged 1 year 7 months 9 days.[3] Possibly the same as the previous child.
ii.	Cyrus Farley Whitney, b. 1 Jan 1877, Alpina, MI; d. 23 Jan 1975, Elkhart, IN; m. 18 June 1912, Goshen, IN, Catherine May Diener.
iii.	Maud L. Whitney, b. 26 Sep 1878, Tompkins, MI;[4] d. 24 Apr 1943; m. 22 Mar 1900, Jackson, MI, Frank J. Harris.
iv.	Rena Elizabeth Whitney, b. 6 Apr 1879, MI; m. 24 Oct 1906, Homer, MI, Luther Sinclair Dye.
v.	Howard C. Whitney, b. 6 Jun 1889, Onondaga, MI;[5] d. 30 Mar 1976 Galesburg, MI; m. 22 Sep 1915, Galesburg, MI, Laura E. Raymond.
