Family:Whitney, James Harvey (1808-1896)

James Harvey⁸ Whitney (Moses⁷, Joseph⁶, Joseph⁵, Thomas⁴, Thomas³, Thomas², John¹), son of Moses⁷ and Lydia (Allen) Whitney, was born 4 Aug 1808, Shelburne, MA, and died after 1880.

He married, 25 Jul 1841, Newark, IL, Lucy Marie Southworth. She was born 21 Sep 1820, Camden, NY, and died 15 Dec 1893, Adrian, MO.

He was born in Shelburne and after the death of his father, went to live with his uncle Jesse Smead, in Frankin County, MA, who married his mother's sister. He lived there six years and then went to Oswego County, NY. In 1835 he started west, working at his trade, that of a carpenter, in Cincinnati, and also in Natchez, MS. In the spring of 1836 he went to Newark, IL, where he resided for 30 years, until he moved to Adrian, MO, in 1867; resided Adrian, MO.
