James Lewis7 Whitney (James6, Samuel5, Samuel4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of James6 and Eunice (Johnson) Whitney, was born 29 May 1789, Newtown, CT,[1] and died after 1840.

He married Maria Cass, daughter of Aaron and Ruth (Bull) Cass.[2]

He resided Watkins, NY.

Phoenix says the following:

"James Lewis Whitney, b. in Newtown, Conn., 23 May 1789; a blacksmith; married Maria Cass; settled at Watkins, N. Y., where they died and were buried."

ii. (daughter) Whitney, b. -----; m. ----- Sweesey, attorney at law, Orange County, NY.
