Marriage intentions were published 14 Apr 1844, Natick, MA, for him "Jr." and Mary Ann Clark "of Sherborn".[3] He married, 9 May 1844, Sherborn, MA, Mary Ann Clark, daughter of Alpheus and Nancy (Leland) Clark.[4] She was born Jan 1816, and died after 1880.

He was a well known and respected citizen of Natick and for 17 years was treasurer of the five-cent savings bank there. He resided Natick, MA.

Child of James M.8 and Mary Ann (Clark) Whitney:

i. Annie Florence9 Whitney, b. ca. 1863, Augusta, ME; parents born in ME; probably adopted; m. 1 Jan 1892, Natick, MA, John Henry Beane, son of Henry and Elizabeth (-----) Beane, b. ca. 1861, Portsmouth, NH; dentist.[5]

Notes

There was an Annie F. Lane, daughter of Nathaniel and Mary (Southard) Lane, born 20 Oct 1861, Augusta, ME. There is no sign of Nathaniel and Mary in the 1870 census, so perhaps both had died, leaving Annie an orphan.
