Family:Whitney, James Oscar (1825-1859)

James Oscar⁷ Whitney (Joseph⁶, Jared⁵, John⁴, Richard³, John², Henry¹), son of Joseph⁶ and Margaret (Ball) Whitney, was born 30 Nov 1825, Washington, DC, and died 8 Sep 1859, Washington, DC,^[1] where he was buried in Congressional Cemetery.

He married, 21 Sep 1853, Moore's Landing, MD, Sallie Maria Moore, daughter of Warren and Maria (Greenwell) Moore. She was born 20 Jan 1832, eight miles from Leonardtown Court House, MD, and died after 1910.

Phoenix says the following:

. . . a contractor . . . . She was appointed clerk in the U.S. Treasurer's office, 20 Jan. 1870, and in April 1874, still retained the position, residing in Washington. "
