Family:Whitney, James Payne (1809-1891)
James Payne6 Whitney (Barnabas5, Isaac4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Barnabas5 and Sarah R. (Walker) Whitney, was born 8 Apr 1809, Freeman, ME, and died 17 Oct 1891, Freeman, ME, aged 84 years. He is buried in the Tuttle Corner Cemetery, Freeman, ME.[1]
He married firstly, 4 Jun 1835, Boston, MA, Harriet N. Fessenden,[2] daughter of Isaac and Mary (Doane) Fessenden. She was born 2 Feb 1814, Providence, RI, and died 16 Jan 1865, Boston, MA, aged 50 years 11 months 14 days, of apoplexy, married, resided 18 Marion Street.[3] She was buried in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. They may have been divorced, despite this "married" designation at death.
He, of Lawrence, KS, married secondly, 23 Oct 1861, Boston, MA, Mary J. Fessenden, daughter of Isaac and Olive (Linnett) Fessenden.[4] She was born aboutt 1832, Providence, RI, and died after 1870. Mary was the niece of James' first wife Harriet, a daughter of Harriet's brother, Isaac.
