Joanna3 Whitney (Richard2, John1), son of Richard2 and Martha (Coldam) Whitney, was born 16 Jan 1656/7, Watertown, MA,[1] and died after 31 Dec 1707.[2]

She married, probably about 1677, John Cady,[3] son of Nicholas and Judith (Knapp) Cady.[4] He was born 16 Jan 1650/1, Watertown, MA.[5] He may have died after 1716, Canterbury, CT.[6]

They lived in Groton, MA.

In 1707 a list of those considering leaving Groton includes the name of John Cady.[7]

"Here [in Stow, MA] his father [i.e. Richard2 Whitney] conveyed to him [i.e. Ebenezer3 Whitney], subject to lifetime support, three parcels of land, 31 Dec. 1707, referring also to Ebenezer's brothers, Moses and Richard Jr., and to his sister Joanna Cady, apparently the wife of John Cady Jr."[8]

On 10 Mar 1720 there was a John Cady "secundus" in Canterbury, who sold land there to Joseph Adams of Medfield, MA, on that date.[9] That implies the existence there of a John Cady "primus", who was older. The latter would seem to be this subject.

Children of John and Joanna3 (Whitney) Cady:

i. (possibly) John Cady, b. say 1678; m. Elizabeth Green.
ii. Abigail Cady, b. say 1681; nothing further known.
iii. Amos Cady, b. say 1684, d. 3 Aug 1688, Groton, MA.[10]
iv. Hannah Cady, b. say 1686; m. Samuel Warner.
v. Mary Cady, b. say 1688, m. Samuel Adams.
vi. Esther Cady, b. say 1691, m. John Adams, Jr.
vii. Jonathan Cady, b. 22 Jan 1693, Groton, MA;[11] m. Hannah -----.
viii. Joanna Cady, b. 14 Oct 1695, Groton, MA;[12] nothing further known.

This list may be inaccurate, since only the last two had their births recorded, and another his death. The rest of these children are put here by a process of elimination, and by using the LDS on-line resources, which are notoriously unreliable. It would be useful to find probate records or deeds to prove the rest.
