He married, 3 May 1871, Wadhams Mills, NY, Louisa Maretta Bailey, daughter of Rev. Phinehas and Betsey (Fisk) Bailey, late of Albany, VT. She was born 4 Jun 1844, Hebron, NY, and died 30 May 1916, Royalton, VT, aged 71 years 11 months 26 days, of mitral regurgitation.

Joel Fisk Whitney was born at Wadhams Mills (town of Westport), Essex County, NY, 30 Mar 1843; united with Congregational church 1 Jun 1856; graduated at Barre, VT, academy, 1864; graduated at Middlebury college, 1868; Andover Theological seminary, 1871; ordained to gospel ministry, 3 May 1871; missionary A. B. C. F. M., 1871-81, at Ebon and Kusaie, Micronesia; pastor Congregational church, Wadhams Mills, New York, 1881-83; Congregational church, Wolcott, VT, 1883-86; Saint Johnsbury, East. VT, 1886-88; Jamaica, VT, 1888-90; Marshfield, VT, 1890-92; began pastorate at Coventryville, NY, 19 Feb 1893; married Miss Louisa Maretta Bailey, daughter of Rev. Phinehas Bailey, late of Albany, Vermont; resided Marshfield, VT, and Coventryville, NY.
