John6 Whitney (Joshua5, Nathaniel4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Joshua5 and Mehitable (Wilson) Whitney,[1] was born 4 May 1751, Spencer, MA,[2] and died 19 Sep 1828, Rochester, NY.

He married, 27 Jun 1782, Westfield, MA, Rachel Hiscock.[3] She was born 1760, and died 30 Jun 1824.

John Whitney resided in Westfield, MA, for two years, then moved to Hoboken, NY. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary war one year. Was present at the surrender of Burgoyne. He resided Westfield, MA, and Rochester, NY.

i. Nancy7 Whitney, b. 5 Dec 1782, Spencer, MA;[4] d. 24 Nov 1819; m. (int. 24 Nov 1803, Northampton, MA) James Smith, Jr.;[5] resided MA.
ii. Susannah Whitney, b. 27 Jul 1784, Spencer, MA;[6] d. 12 Dec 1849; m. Jahaziel Janes; resided Greece, NY. They had a son Warham and a daughter who m. Mr. Little and resided in San Francisco, CA. Other ch. were George and Laura.
iii. Warham Whitney, b. 27 Apr 1786; m. Nancy Mordoff.
iv. Samuel Whitney, b. 10 May 1788.
v. Jared Whitney, b. 5 Oct 1790, Norwich, MA; m. Catherine Jane Daniels.
vi. Electa Whitney, b. 15 Sep 1792; m. Liley Glazier. She d. 26 Mar 1840.
vii. John Whitney, b. 5 May 1795; m. Nancy Van Tuyl.
viii. Alanson Whitney, b. 31 Mar 1797; m. Catherine Voorhies.
ix. William Whitney, b. 30 Apr 1803; d. 17 Oct 1823.
