John5 Whitney (John4, William3, Joshua2, John1), son of John4 and Elizabeth (Adams) Whitney, was born 3 Feb 1754, Lebanon, CT,[1] and died 4 Aug 1807, Canaan, CT, aged 53 years, buried Canaan, CT. He has a Revolutionary War marker on his grave.[2]

John married firstly, Anne -----.

John married secondly, 17 Feb 1777, Canaan, CT, Hannah Belden[3], daughter of Charles and Hannah (Hogeboon) Belden. She was born 9 Sep 1757, Canaan, CT.

He was also known as Capt. John Whitney.

There were no known children of John5 and Anne (-----) Whitney.

i. (child)6 Whitney, b. Nov 1785; d. 29 May 1786, Canaan, CT, aged 6 months, bur. North Canaan, CT.
ii. John Whitney, b. circa 1786 (calculated from age at death per Church records); d. 13 Mar 1809, Canaan, CT; aged 23 years, bur. Canaan, CT[4][5].

These Church records show his age as 23 while the below reference states his age as 13. It is more probable that he is 23 and born a year after the death of his infant sibling.
