John Whitney, allegedly son of John Whitney, of whom nothing is known. He was born about May 1830, Hopkinton, MA, and died 11 Feb 1880, Holliston, MA, aged 49 years 9 months, of aneurism.[1]

He married, 23 Nov 1853, Concord, NH, Charlotte L. Virgin, both of Concord,[2] daughter of William H. and Lavinia (Tyler) Virgin. She was born about 1833, Concord, NH, and died after 1880.

He was a mechanic.

Children of John and Charlotte L. (Virgin) Whitney:

i. Ida S. Whitney, b. ca. 1853, NH; m. 1 Jan 1878, New York, NY, Newton W. Palmer.[3]
ii. John F. Whitney, b. ca. 1856, NH; d. 6 Jun 1885, Medway, MA, aged 29 years;[4] aoparently unmarried.
iii. Mary A. Whitney, b. ca. 1858, Concord, NH; "Minnie" m. 25 Jul 1888, Boston, MA, William Denne, b. ca. 1862, England, son of George H. and Mary (-----) Denne.[5]
iv. Lottie Christine Whitney, b. 27 Jul 1870, Medway, MA;[6] d. 10 Jul 1885, Medway, MA, aged 13 years 11 months 23 days, of consumption.[7]

Notes

His death record says he was then married, a bootmaker, born in Hopkinton, and his father's name was John. No record of his birth has been found, and the identity of his father is not clear.

  • 1850: not found. Cannot distinguish him from others of the name. There is a candidate in Brighton and another in Leominster, but the former was a merchant, and the latter a brick maker.
