(Capt.) John Jefferson7 Whitney (Walter6, Jonathan5, Matthias4, Cornelius3, Joshua2, John1), son of Walter6 and Louisiana (Edwards) Whitney, was born about 7 Sep 1836, PA, and (as "Capt.") was killed in action, 18 May 1864, aged 27 years 8 months 11 days, at Spottsylvania Court House, VA.

He married, 10 Mar 1860, Luzerne Co., PA, Mary Jeanette Davenport. She was born 16 Mar 1840, Plymouth, PA, and died 21 May 1922, Wilkes-Barre, PA. She married secondly, 14 Apr 1870, Luzerne Co., PA, Lorenzo7 Whitney.

He served in the Civil War as a Captain in Co. F, 53rd Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers.
