John L. Whitney (John), son of John and Jane (Gilson) Whitney, was born about 1827 or 1832, Nashua, NH [but Newburyport, MA, per death record], and died 1 Aug 1885, Boston, MA, aged 58, of phthisis.[1]
He married firstly, 9 Sep 1848, Lowell, MA, Sarah L. Morse, daughter of Caleb and Sarah (-----) Morse.[2] She was born Franklin, MA.
He married secondly, 4 Feb 1875, Boston, MA, Louisa F. Smith, daughter of Thomas and Ann (-----) Smith. She was born about 1843, England.[3] She married secondly, 19 Dec 1886, Cambridge, MA, Eben L. Scott, b. ca. 1839, NS, son of Eben and Rosanne (-----) Scott.[4]
