John Mirick5 Whitney (Caleb4, William3, Joshua2, John1), son of Caleb4 and Margaret (Tracy) Whitney, was born 18 Jul 1758, Norwich, CT, and died before 1819, GA. He may be the John Whitney who died 28 Oct 1801, Norwich, CT.

He married firstly, before 1784, Edith -----.

He "of Georgia" married secondly, 28 May 1792, Westport, MA, Bridget Seymour.[1]

He was also known as John Merrick Whitney. He went south to North Carolina and Georgia at an early age, because a son was born in NC in 1784, and he was "of Georgia" when he married in MA in 1792.

In Oct 1795, Elbert Co., GA, was recorded a grant of land by head right.[2]

29 May 1797, John M. Whitney and Bridget, his wife, sold to Joseph Long, all of Elbert County, 50 acres adjoining Burch. Consideration: $20. Witness: M. Woods, J. P. Recorded in Book "D", Folio 66, May 29, 1797.[3]

Children of John Mirick5 and Edith (-----) Whitney:

i. John Mireck6 Whitney, b. 19 Nov 1784, NC.[4]
ii. Andrew Griswold Whitney, b. 2 Oct 1786, NC;[5] m. Ann Eliza Talman.
