Jonathan3 Whitney (Benjamin2, John1), son of Benjamin2 and Jane (-----) Whitney;[1] was born about 1681, probably York, Maine;[2] died 16 Jan 1754, Holliston, MA[3].

Jonathan married, 14 Jan 1700/1, Medfield, MA, Susannah Fairbanks,[4] daughter of George and Susannah (-----) Fairbanks.[5] She was born 17 Mar 1682, Medfield, MA;[6], and died after 2 Feb 1753, when she was mentioned in her husband's will.

"Benjamin and Hester Whitney sell land to bro. Jonathan W[hitney], 1718-19."[7]

"In 1721 Jonathan WHITNEY's name is found among the list of those taxed for the minister's rate in Sherborn. He paid one of the largest taxes. In 1723 his name was first on a petition to be set off as a separate town. This was afterward called Holliston. In 1727 he was chosen committee in Holliston in relation to land for minister. In 1730 he deeded his interest in the land to the first minister, Rev. James STONE. He was selectman in Holliston 1724-25-26-27-28-32-36-37."[8]

He died 16 Jan 1754, Holliston, MA.

On 5 Feb 1754, the heirs signified their satisfaction with the will: Jonathan Whitney, Isaac Hill, Abraham Jones, David Cutler, Ebenezer Hunt, Elias Whitney, and Joseph Jones.

On 11 Feb 1754, his will was proved.

On 26 Feb 1754, the inventory of his personal estate was taken by Daniel Emerson, Daniel Russell, and Richard Sanger, amounting to £1827-8s-6d.

On 17 May 1754, Isaac Hill and Lydia Hill quit their claim to the estate.

On 7 Oct 1754, the inventory of his real estate was taken by Daniel Emerson, James Whitney, Joseph Brown, James Russell, and Richard Sanger, amounting to £300; distribution to Jonathan Whitney, George Whitney, Elias Whitney, heirs of George Whitney, decd., Susannah Ames's children, Keziah Jones, Dorotha Hunt, Mary Jones, Mehetabel Cutler, and Lydia Hill; signed by Jonathan Whitney, Elias Whitney, Ebenezer Hunt, Abraham Jones, Joseph Jones, David Cutler, and Joseph Cozens.

On 24 Dec 1754, an administration account was presented, including note for £100 due to Jonathan Whitney of Mendon from his father Jonathan Whitney of Holliston, for keeping his [the father's] sister Elner Whitney 2 years (9 Apr 1752 - 9 Apr 1754).[9]

vii. Jesse Whitney; b. 8 Feb 1714;[16] d. 1 Mar 1714 at Sherborn, MA;[17] unmarried.
viii. Hannah Whitney; b. 11 Feb 1714/15.[18] She was not mentioned in her father's will on 2 Feb 1753 at Holliston, MA, but Joseph Cozens signed a receipt as one of the heirs. Probably Hannah was his first wife, and died soon without surviving issue.
ix. Elias Whitney, b. 14 Nov 1716;[19] m.(1) Elizabeth Mellen; m.(2) Elizabeth Boyden.
x. Mehetable Whitney, b. 27 Dec 1718;[20] m. David Cutler.
xi. George Whitney, b. 12 Aug 1721;[21] m. Sarah Couzens.
