Family:Whitney, Joseph (1774-1860)

Lieut. Joseph⁶ Whitney (Jonathan⁵, James⁴, Joseph³, Jonathan², John¹), son of Jonathan⁵ and Abigail (Hemminway) Whitney; born Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire, 7 Jun 1774, married 22 Dec 1805, Sophia Oliver, born 6 Dec 1784; died 3 Mar 1860, at Wilson, New York. He was a farmer, was a soldier in the war of 1812, and acted as a lieutenant and quartermaster. He died 5 Jan 1860; resided Wilson, New York.

Children of Joseph⁶ and Sophia (Oliver) Whitney:

i.	Benjamin Whitney, born 1807; married in 1832; died 4 Jan 1856. Left 4 ch. Newton Ledyard married Mary A. -----, and died in 1884, leaving Le Borne, who resided in Eustis, Florida. He had two daughters who died before attaining their majority. Another son was William Wallace, who died and left a widow and three sons; one was Percy.
ii.	Abigail Whitney, born 27 Mar 1808; married John S. Cudaback. She died June 4, 1845, leaving 5 ch.; one was William; resided Olcott, New York.
iii.	Zervah Oliver Whitney, born 21 Mar 1812; married ----- Rolph. She had 9 ch. She died 17 Dec 1891, at Battle Creek, Michigan. A dau. is Mrs. Edward Smith, resided Coldwater, Michigan, and a son is B. F. Rolph, resided Tekonsha, Michigan; Joseph W., resided Eaton Rapids, Michigan; dau. Mrs. Orisa Rhodes resided Hart, Michigan.
iv.	Joseph W. Whitney, born 16 Feb 1815; married and resided Coldwater, Michigan; has 4 children.
v.	Franklin P. Whitney, born 14 Apr 1817; married and died in 1865, leaving 2 sons; one son died in the army in 1864; left a son resided in Kidder, Missouri.
vi.	Ferdinand Whitney, born 23 Aug 1819; resided Mattison, Branch County, Michigan; married and has 11 ch.
vii.	Lorin Jerome Whitney, born 20 Feb 1824. He was in the Civil war and was with Sherman when he marched to the sea. He died June 1865, in the District of Columbia. He left a widow and 4 ch. She married a Mr. Prior. A son, Jesse M., resided Clayton, Fairbault County, Minnesota.
viii.	Albert Whitney, born 1 Jul 1826; married Teressa Martha Phelps.
ix.	Milton Whitney, born 27 Sep 1830; resided Wilson, New York; married 1 May 1857, Charlotte Wilson; born 7 Jun 1835. Ch.: Eugene, born Mar. 27, 1858; died 4 Jan 1863; Erwin, born 10 Dec 1863; Nellie May, born 18 Mar 1865; died 31 Aug 1893.
x.	George Whitney, born 4 Dec 1809; died 15 Aug 1810.
xi.	George Whitney, born 27 Apr 1811; died same day.
xii.	Sophia Whitney, born 24 Mar 1822; died 10 Sep 1823.
