Joseph6 Whitney (James5, James4, Henry3, John2, Henry1), son of James5 and Abigail (-----) Whitney, was born 12 Jul 1785, Southeast, NY, and died 11 Jun 1841, Southeast, NY.

He married firstly, 14 Jan 1808, Southeast, NY, Hannah Roberson. She was born 14 Aug 1787, and died 4 or 31 Mar 1825, Southeast, NY. She was buried in Drew Cemetery, Southeast, NY.

He married secondly, 3 Jun 1829, Southeast, NY, Polly Byington, daughter of Samuel and Jerusha (Janes) Byington. She died 3 Feb 1875, Danbury, CT, and was buried in Wooster Cemetery there.

Phoenix says the following:[1]

"Joseph Whitney, b. in Southeast, N. Y., 12 July 1785; a farmer; was bound, in his youth, apprentice to Mr. Richards, of Southeast, where he married, 14 Jan. 1808, Hannah Roberson,1 who was born 14 Aug. 1787. They settled at Southeast, where she died, 4 or 31 March 1825, and was buried in Drew Cemetery, near the south-west corner of the town. He married (2d), 3 June 1829, at Southeast, Polly Byington, who was born at Southeast, 22 Oct 1797, dau. of Samuel and Jerusha (Janes) Byington, and g. dau. of Solomon and Isabella (Latham) Byington, of Turk Hill, in Southeast. He died, 11 June 1841, in Southeast, and was buried in the Drew Cemetery. He was a soldier in the war of 1812. She was living with her daughter, Mrs. Augusta Maria (Whitney) Hoyt, in Danbury, Conn., in Jan. 1874. She died there, 3 Feb. 1875, and was buried in Wooster Cemetery."

iii. Leonard Clifton Whitney, b. 16 Nov 1812, Southeast, NY; d. 5 Jan 1850, Patterson, NY; m. 4 Sep 1841, Patterson, NY, Betsey Ann Kinner. She m.(2) Reuben Thompkins of Danbury, CT.
iv. Clarissa Whitney, b. 21 Feb 1815, Southeast, NY; d. after Jan 1874; m. 23 Apr 1835, Carmel, NY, Joseph Tilford.
v. Lyman Whitney, b. 9 Mar 1817, Southeast, NY; m. Mary Walker.
vi. Emeline Whitney, b. 16 Apr 1819, Southeast, NY; d. 24 Mar 1850, Southeast, NY; m. 19 Dec 1845, Lewis Ardalia Townsend.
vii. Ira Whitney, b. 13 Jan 1822, Southeast, NY; d. 16 Apr 1861, Somers, NY; m. 11 Jan 1847, Southeast, NY, Sarah Ann Ferguson.
viii. Charles Whitney, b. 18 Oct 1824, Southeast, NY; d. 17 Mar 1824, Southeast, NY; buried Drew Cemetery, Southeast, NY.
