Family:Whitney, Joseph (1835-1902)

Joseph⁷ Whitney (John McCall⁶, Benjamin⁵, John⁴, Henry³, John², Henry¹), son of John McCall⁶ and Mary Ann (McCluskey) Whitney, was born 4 Jul 1835, Boonville, NY, and died 20 Dec 1902, Indianapolis, IN. He was buried in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN.^[1]

He married firstly, 6 Aug 1862, New York Mills, NY, Sarah Jane Carman, daughter of Robert and Catharine (Foster) Carman. She was born 5 Jun 1844, Binghamton, NY, and died between 1880 and 1888, Utica, NY.

He married secondly, before 1892, Luna (Chase) Hammond, daughter of Oren and Diadama (Button) Chase. She was born 20 Feb 1835, NY, and died 12 Jun 1914. She was buried in Eaton Village Cemetery, Eaton, NY.^[2] She had married firstly, said 29 Feb 1852, Amos Hammond (1826-1886).

Phoenix says the following:

". . . overseer of the carding department of the New York Mills . . . . They lived at Ilion, N.Y., from their marriage until 1 March 1864; dwelt at Eaton, N.Y., for one year; and then settled at New York Mills, where he was living in 1874."

Luna was the author of History of Madison County.
