Joshua6 Whitney (Joshua5, Nathaniel4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), born in 1758; married in Spencer, 7 Jun 1781, Esther Prouty; born Spencer, Massachusetts, 11 Jun 1764; died Langdon, New Hampshire; married 2d in 1790, Electa Sawtell.

Joshua Whitney settled in Langdon, New Hampshire, where he buried his first wife; then moved to Cavendish, Vermont, where he married Miss Sawtell. From there he went to the Genesee river in New York, and located at Pike in 1815. Served in the war of the Revolution two years from Spencer, Massachusetts, in the company from that town; was in two battles previous to the capture of Burgoyne, and was present at his surrender.

Washington Whitney, of East Middletown, Dane County, Wisconsin, and Dr. Joshua Whitney, of Emmettsburg, Iowa, are descendants of Joshua and Electa. He died Nov. 18, 1850; resided Spencer, Massachusetts, Langdon and Dalton, New Hampshire, Cavendish, Vermont, and Pike, New York.
