Joshua6 Whitney, 3rd (Joshua5, Joshua4, Richard3, Richard2, John1), son of Joshua5 and Marcy (Pierce) Whitney, was born 11 Jan 1769, Stow, MA, and died after 1800. Stow VR says "third son."

Marriage intentions were published 22 Mar 1790, Fitchburg, MA, for him "of Stow" and Abigail Holt "of Fitchburg". He married, 27 May 1790, Boxborough, MA, Abigail Holt, daughter of Jonathan and Susannah (Holt) Holt. She was born 2 May 1766, Lunenburg, MA, and died after 1800.

On 11 Mar 1784, Boxborough, MA, Silas Taylor, gentleman, of Boxberry, was appointed guardian of Joshua Whitney, minor over 14, son of Joshua Whitney, late of Boxberry, deceased, and posted bond with Zacheus Wright, Esq., of Westford, and Nehemiah Batchellor, gentleman, of Boxberry, as sureties.

On 7 Jun 1785, Boxborough, MA, division of his father's estate was made by Francis Faulkner, Jabez Brown, and Simon Tuttle; widow, Marcy Wyman; daughters Elizabeth Whitney, Lois Mace, wife of Eliphalet Mace, and Susannah Whitney (the youngest); sons Eliphalet Whitney (eldest) and Joshua Whitney, Jr.; signed by Oliver Wyman, Marcy Wyman, Eliphalet Whitney, Eliphalet Mace, Lois Mace, Silas Taylor (guardian of Joshua Whitney, Jr.), Nehemiah Batchelor (guardian of Susannah Whitney), and Marcy Hosmer.

On 19 Jun 1790, Boxborough, MA, Joshua Whitney gave a receipt for his share of the estate of his father, Joshua Whitney, to Silas Taylor, his late guardian.

He appears in the 1800 census at Boxborough, with wife and four daughters, but no children are recorded in Boxborough Vital Records.
