Josiah6 Whitney (Josiah5, Josiah4, Josiah3, [prob.] Benjamin2, John1), son of Josiah5 and Mary (Loomis) Whitney, was born 1 May 1791, East Granville, MA, was baptized 23 Jun 1791, Granville, MA,[1] and died 7 Oct 1869, Rootstown, OH.

He married, 28 May 1818, Almira Ellsworth. She was born 7 June 1803, East Windsor, CT, and died 14 Jan 1884, Rootstown, OH.

He spent 18 months in the army during the 1812 war. Went to Ohio 1815 in which state he remained until his death. He resided in Rootstown, OH.

iii. Lucius E. Whitney, b. 21 Dec 1822; d. 4 Dec 1890; m. 31 Dec 1848, Lucretia R. Eatinger; res. Rootstown, OH.
iv. Jonas E. Whitney, b. 28 Oct 1825; d. 20 Aug 1863, Helena, AR, of disease contracted while in the civil war in Co. B, 126th Illinois Volunteers.
v. Artemitia A. Whitney, b. 14 Apr 1828; m. 17 Oct 1853, Edward L. Clark; res. Leeds, MA.
vi. Charles W., b. 31 Dec 1835; m. 11 Oct 1866, Henrietta S. Deming; was in the civil war in Co. I, 104th Ohio Regiment.
vii. Mary Dolly Whitney, b. 28 Oct 1840; teacher; res. Rootstown, OH.
