Josiah Steaton⁹ Whitney (Josiah Billings⁸, Zachariah⁷, Zachariah⁶, Zachariah⁵, John⁴, Joseph³, John², John¹), son of Josiah Billings⁸ and Mary Ann (Patch) Whitney, was born 3 Mar 1838, Lunenburg, MA, and died 11 Jul 1894, Mason City, NE. He was buried in Mason City Cemetery, Mason City, NE.^[1]

He married, 19 Nov 1862, Sandgate, VT, Nancy Monroe, daughter of John and Catherine (-----) Monroe.^[2] She died before 1890, Salem, NY, and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Salem, NY.^[3]

Private, Co. I, 16th New York Heavy Artillery. Living in Custer Co., NE, in 1890. Bur. Mason City Cemetery, Mason City, Custer Co., NE.
