Lemuel Parkhurst8 Whitney (Joel7, Joel6, Jonathan5, Jonathan4, Jonathan3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Joel7 and Esther (Belding) Whitney, was born 3 Jan 1820, Seneca, NY; and died 9 May 1898, Hudson, MI.[1]

He married, 2 Sep 1841, Seneca, NY, Elmira Colwell. She was born 30 Jan 1812, and died 16 Oct 1888.

He was born in Seneca, NY, where he resided until 1840, when he moved to Hudson, MI, where he has since resided, engaged in farming and lumbering. He is a member of the Congregational church; resided Hudson, MI.

Children of Lemuel Parkhurst8 and Elmira (Colwell) Whitney:

i. Joel Colwell9 Whitney, b. 14 Dec 1843, Hudson, MI. He was educated at the public schools there and at Hillsdale college, and while at the latter place enlisted in the army in the summer of 1862 in Company C, Berdan's Sharpshooters, and served until 1863. That year he went to Chattanooga, TN, with Gen. Edwin Mccook, as chief clerk of the supply agency for the Army of the Cumberland. He was there when the war closed, when he at once engaged in the wholesale dry goods and grocery business. In 1873 he came to Chicago and at present is interested with J. W. Doane & County, importers and wholesalers of teas and coffees. This firm has one of the largest trades in this line in the country. He is unmarried, and his address is 45 Wabash Ave.
ii. Daniel Oliver Whitney, b. 15 Mar 1850; d. 26 Jun 1860 or Jan 1860.[2]
