He was Captain of Co. M, 1st Maryland Cavalry. Second Lieutenant of same, Folliot A. Whitney. Organized May 1862, Washington, DC. Mustered out 8 Aug 1865.
On 30 Sep 1871, he was a clerk, appointed in Washington, DC, working in Washington, DC, born in Canada, naturalized, salary $1400.[3]
On 30 Sep 1873, he was a clerk of the second class, appointed in Washington, DC, working in Washington, DC, born in Canada, of American parents temporarily living abroad, salary $1400.[4]
Folliot A. Whitney was a page in the United States Senate in 1856.

Transferred to Company M, Maryland 1st Cavalry Regiment on 25 Apr 1862. Mustered out on 07 Apr 1863. Promoted to Full 2nd Lieutenant on 6 Jun 1863. Commissioned an officer in on 06 Jun 1863. Promoted to Brevet 1st Lieutenant on 13 Mar 1865. Promoted to Brevet Captain on 13 Mar 1865. Promoted to Brevet Major on 13 Mar 1865. Mustered out on 18 Jun 1866.

Major F.A. Whitney Dies In Philippines</ br> Washington, August 13. Adjutant General Corbin received a cable message this morning from General MacArthur saying Major F.A. Whitney of the Sixth Infantry died at Manila on the 11th instant of heart disease. Major Whitney was one of the heroes of the Civil War and was brevetted three times, the last as Major of volunteers, for gallant and meritorious services during the war. He was a native of the District of Columbia and entered the Army April 25, 1862, as Second Lieutenant of the First Maryland Cavalry. After the Civil War he was commissioned in the regular array as Second Lieutenant of tho Eighth Infantry. He reached the grade of Major of the Sixth Infantry in July 1898 and served with that regiment up to the time of his death.
