Family:Whitney, Lovet P. (c1808-1897)

Lovet P. Whitney ([perhaps] Lovet T.), son of Sarah Whitney, and perhaps son of Lovet T. Whitney, was born circa 1808, SC, and died Mar 1897, Iron Co., MO.

He married, first, 19 Jul 1828, Butler Co., KY, Marion Hugens, born circa 1814, TN or SC.

He married, second, 16 Jul 1886, Iron Co., MO, Martha Caroline (Self) Baker, born 12 Sep 1834, AR. She was listed as Martha C. Baker on the marriage certificate. He had married firstly, about 1855, Elisha Jobe Baker.

He was a farmer and a pastor, and resided in KY, IN, and MO.

He served in the Civil War in the 42nd Regiment, Indiana Infantry.^[1]

Note that in 1850, the only other Whitney family (Wiley and Lucinda Whitney) in Subdivision 2 had a son named Lovet P. Whitney. This family was probably related.

iv.	Lovet Hezekiah Whitney, b. ca. 1837, Butler Co., KY. He served in the Civil War in the 65th Regiment, Indiana Infantry;[2] said m. 27 Aug 1895, Gibson Co., IN, ----- -----. Not found in 1860, 1870, or 1880 censuses.
v.	Sarah Ann Whitney, b. ca. 1838, KY, m. December 1857, Muhlenberg Co., KY, George Lacy.
vi.	Martha Priscilla Whitney, b. 17 May 1845, Hopkins Co., KY; d. 9 Jun 1925, Warrick Co., IN; bur. Mt. Gilead Cemetery, Boon, Warrick Co., IN; m. 24 Aug 1860, Warrick Co., IN, Alpha Matthews.

Notes

He may have been named after Sir Edward Lovett Pearce (1699-1733), a prominent Irish architect.

There is a difference of opinion with regard to the identification of his son John. Several on-line family trees at Ancestry.com suggest that he was identical to John Whitney (c1833-1861), m. 17 Apr 1851, Butler Co., KY, Catherine Jane Sharer.
