Malcom Whitney, parentage unknown, born before 1769,^[1] and died between 1820 and 31 Oct 1827.^[2]

He married Rachael -----.^[3]

Malcom Whitney is initially found on tax list in Washington County Virginia:

1786 'Malcum' Whitney paid one tithe ^[4]

1787 'Malcum' Whitney paid one tithe ^[5]

1789 Malcom Whitney paid one tithe ^[6]

1791 'Malcon' 'Maleon' 'Mahlon' ?? Whitney paid one tithe ^[7]

There have not been any property records found, to date, for Malcom Whitney in Washington County, Virginia. The 1787 Census of Virginia notes the location of Malcom Whitney as in the District of David Carson, Washington County Virginia.^[8].

The 1791 Personal Property Tax List, Washington County, Virginia appears to be the last record for Malcom Whitney in Virginia.

He is next documented on a South Carolina land deed dated 14 Dec 1816 showing as an adjacent land owner on Upper Three Runs, Barnwell District.^[9]

Malcom Whitney was a member of the Rosemary Baptist Church near Williston, Barnwell County, South Carolina. He first appears in the written records of the Church in early 1816. Subsequent Church records suggest that Malcom Whitney had relocated to the Barnwell area of South Carolina from Georgia. 17 April 1819, The Church appointed Brother Clerk to write our Sister Church at Augusta (Georgia) to return his (Malcom Whitney's) Letter with directions to give it into this Church. ^[10]. The problems were apparently resolved and The Church met in conference 11 September 1819 and resolved to license Brother Whitney to preach the Gospel.^[11]

Barnwell District In the name of God Amen. I, Malcom Whitney of the District and State aforesaid, being in perfect health of body, and of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding thanks be given unto God for the same, and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament.

I give and bequeath unto my beloved Wife Rachel Whitney the whole of my Estate both Real and Personal, during her nayural life, or Widowhood, and if she shall marry after my death, then it is my Will and desire that the whole of my property both real and personal should be sold and equal division take place between my said Wife and my children, She taking a childs part only. And I nominate, constitute and appoint my said Wife Executrix to this my last Will and Testament.

In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fourteenth day of October in the year of our Lord, one thousand, eight hundred and Seventeen and in the forty first year of American Independence.

Signed, Sealed, published, pronounced & declared by the Testator, to be his last Will & testament, in our presence, who at his reuest in his presence & in the presence of each other, have subscribed our names as Witnesses thereto.

Tolliver Martin

Rebekah Martin Malcom Whitney (Rebecca Whitney married Taliaferro "Tolliver" Martin and her birthdate was about 1775 therefore, she is most likely a sister to Malcolm Whitney, not a daughter)

Personally appeared before me Mr. Toliver Martin, who being duly sworn made oath that he saw Mr. Malcom Whitney sign seal publish, pronounce and declare the within Instrument of writing to be and contain his Last Will and Testament,that he the said Malcom Whitney was then of sound and disposing mind and memory and understanding to the best of the Deponents knowledge and belief, and that Rebecca Martin and Zachariah Martin together with the Deponent signed their names as witnesses there to , at the request of the Testator in his presence and in the presence of each other. At the same time qualified Mrs. Rachel Whitney Executrix.

Given under my Hand this thirty first day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Twenty Seven. Orsamus D. Allen O.B.D.

Inventory of Estate made December 13, 1827 by David Buckhalter, Jesse Johnson, William Conway, John Bush

Sale of Estate made October 16, 1834. Buyers were William M. Walker, Jesse Youngblood, Rachel Youngblood, Edmond Stringfield, Hardy Wall, Reason Woolley, Rachel Whitney, Mrs. Red, Richard Armstrong, Louis Bates, David Buckhalter, John McLamore, Randol More.

On September 22, 1834 the petition of Rachel Whitney sheweth that she come to the conclusion to break up housekeeping, and live with one of her sons in law, on account of her age and infirmity she cannot well live by her self.

The family grouping for Malcom and Rachel Whitney, as seen on the 1820 Census, may represent daughters and/or grandchildren or acquired children from deceased family members. Further research is required to determine the exact relationships of the members as listed:

i.	Mary Whitney, b. 1797, m. William M. Walker, b. 1799.
ii.	(son) Whitney, b. 1804-1810.
iii.	(daughter) Whitney, b. 1804-1810.
iv.	(daughter) Whitney, b. 1804-1810.
v.	(daughter) Whitney, b. 1804-1810.
vi.	(daughter) Whitney, b. 1804-1810.
vii.	Emily Whitney, b. 1811-1815; m. Hardy Wall.
vii.	(daughter) Whitney, b. 1810-1820.

Malcom Whitney did not specifically name any of his sons-in-law or daughters in his will. Rachael Whitney did not re-marry so the property was never divided equally between the children and his widow.

The following list of children proven from Barnwell court records, later deeds for Malcom Whitney's known properties, and the close proximity of the family members to Rachael Whitney in later years:

?.	Martha Whitney, m. Wyley Burkhalter, b. ca. 1816.[14] Martha was probably one of the daughters listed above, but because we don't yet know her age, we can't assign her a position in the list.
?.	Emily Whitney, b. ca. 1811-1815; m. Hardy Wall.[15] Emily was one of the daughters listed above, but because we don't yet know her age, we can't assign her a position in the list.
?.	(daughter) Whitney, m. Reason Woolley.[16] This daughter was probably one of the daughters listed above, but because we don't yet know her age, we can't assign her a position in the list. Daughter's name was either Amy or Aria, but exact name can not be confirmed due to inaccuracies in records.
?.	Rachael Whitney, m. ----- Youngblood.[17] Was she the Rachel Youngblood, wife of Sam Youngblood, who resided in Barnwell Co., SC in 1850, b. ca. 1800?
?.	Margaret Whitney, m. Charles Cook.
