Mary Jane⁸ Whitney (John⁷, Phinehas⁶, Samuel⁵, William⁴, Nathaniel³, John², John¹), daughter of John⁷ and Sarah (Chapman) Whitney, was born 26 May 1825, Waterford, Ohio, and died Jun 1891, Nebraska. She was buried in Grant Cemetery, Nemaha County, Nebraska.

She married, 23 Apr 1843, Washington County, Ohio, Madison Smith, parentage unknown. He was born 1808, Delaware, and died 20 Feb 1858, Union Township, Monroe County, Iowa.

i.	Nathaniel P. Smith, b. 25 Mar 1844, Ohio; d. 3 Aug 1920, Smith Homestead, Nemaha County, Nebraska; m. 12 Feb 1872, Nebraska, Martha Matilda Edwards. She was dau. of William and Mary (Keeney) Edwards, b. 13 Nov 1851, Iowa, and d. 12 Dec 1943, Nebraska. Both are buried in Grant Cemetery, Nemaha County, Nebraska.
ii.	Sarah Smith, b. 1846, Ohio; no further record.
iii.	William Smith, b. 1849, Ohio; no further record.
iv.	James M. Smith, b. 1853, Iowa; no further record.
v.	Eliza Jane Smith, b. Nov 1855, IA; d. 24 Dec 1931, Nebraska; m. 19 Jan 1876, Nebraska, Gehial C. Chamberlin. He was son of Marcus and Sally (Parker) Chamberlin, b. Nov 1847, Pennsylvania, and d. 15 Jun 1931, Nebraska.
vi.	Montiville Smith, b. 1858, IA; d. 1922. He was buried in Grant Cemetery, Nemaha County, Nebraska.
