Family:Whitney, Mordecai (1829-1904)

Mordecai⁸ Whitney (Thomas⁷, Phinehas⁶, Samuel⁵, William⁴, Nathaniel³, John², John¹), son of Thomas⁷ and Hannah (Preston) Whitney, was born 21 Dec 1829, Waterford, Washington County, Ohio, and died 19 Apr 1904, Muncie, Delaware County, Indiana, aged 74. He is buried in Mount Tabor Cemetery, Delaware County, Indiana.

He married, 1 Aug 1861, Delaware County, Indiana, Eliza Ann Orr, daughter of Joseph and Mary (Hopping) Orr. She was born 24 Nov 1842, and died 20 May 1923, Muncie, Delaware County, Indiana. She is buried in Mount Tabor Cemetery, Delaware County, Indiana.

Mordecai served in Company K, 19th Indiana Volunteer Infantry, in the Civil War, with his brothers David and Franklin. He was injured in the war and discharged in 1862.
