Family:Whitney, Orrell (1824-1864)

Orrell⁸ Whitney (George Huyler⁷, Zadok⁶, Hezekiah⁵, Hezekiah⁴, Joseph³, John², Henry¹), son of George Huyler⁷ and Anna (Vance) Whitney, was born 10 Mar 1824, Wolcott, VT, and died 26 May 1862, Alexandria, VA, of smallpox, where he was buried.

He married, 8 Feb 1846, Hardwick, VT, or 15 Feb 1846, Wolcott, VT, Mary Philura Merrill,^[1] daughter of Moses and Lucy (Osgood) Merrill. She was born 14 Dec 1824, Cabot, VT, and died after 1873.

Phoenix says the following:

". . . a farmer . . . . He enlisted in Aug. 1862, in the 3d Reg., Vt. Volunteers; and died at Alexandria, Va., 26 May 1864, of small-pox; and was buried at Alexandria. His home was at Wolcott, Vt. His widow was yet living at Cabot in 1873, with her two sons."
