Captain Perley6 Whitney (Joseph5, Joshua4, Cornelius3, Joshua2, John1), son of Joseph5 and Anna (Ames) Whitney, was born about 1786, and died 14 Jun 1818, Granville, NY, in the 33rd year of his age. He was buried in Lee-Oatman Cemetery, South Granville, NY.[1]

He married, before 1810, Zeruiah Gould, daughter of Ebenezer and Rhoda (Robbins) Gould. She was born 30 Aug 1787, Granville, NY, and died 5 Jun 1841, Granville, NY. She was buried in Lee-Oatman Cemetery, South Granville, NY.[2] She married secondly, Nov 1821, Noe Duel, son of Ezra and Deborah (Stark) Duel, born 15 Mar 1797, Hebron, NY, and died 14 Jul 1836, South Granville, NY.

He served as an ensign in Capt. Hosea Day's Co. of light infantry, Pliny Adams's Regiment, N.Y. Militia, 11 to 22 Sep 1814, War of 1812.[3] Then he was promoted to Captain in the 175th Regiment of N.Y. Militia, under Col. John Straight, Jr.

ii. (daughter) Whitney, b. 1805-1810; d. after 1820.
iii. Rhoda Whitney, b. ca. 1814, Granville, NY; d. 22 Aug 1833, Granville, NY; bur. Lee-Oatman Cemetery, South Granville, NY.[4]
iv. (son) Whitney, b. 1810-1820; d. after 1820. He may be the same as Parley Whitney of WI and MN, and if so, born posthumously.
v. (daughter) Whitney, b. 1810-1820; d. after 1820.

Child of Noe and Zeruiah (Gould)(Whitney) Duel:

i. Fayette Duel, b. 13 Dec 1820.
ii. Harriette Duel, b. 14 Jan 1823.
iii. Deborah Duel, b. 26 Jan 1825; d. 1862; m. 1844, David Whitney Herron, b. 1824, d. 1881.
