Family:Whitney, Reuben (1771-1836)

Reuben⁶ Whitney (Abel⁵, Nathan⁴, Nathaniel³, Benjamin², John¹), son of Abel⁵ and Thankful (Morton) Whitney, was born 1764, Standish, ME, and died 13 Feb 1836, Litchfield, ME.

He married, 1797, Litchfield, ME, Mercy Baker. She was born 1778, Dresden, ME, and died Mar 1840, East Pittston, ME.

He was a wheelwright by trade. He resided Litchfield, ME.

Children of Reuben⁶ Whitney and Mercy (Baker) Whitney:

i.	Levi7 Whitney, b. 17 Nov 1800; m.(1) Mary Hutchings; m.(2) Hannah Whitney.
ii.	Simeon Whitney, b. -----.
iii.	Otis Whitney, b. ca. 1806, ME. He was a cooper and resided with his brother Levi in 1850.
iv.	Gorham Whitney, b. circa 1806, ME. The 1840 census shows Gorham Whitney and his family living in Gardiner, ME. The 1850 census of Newcastle, Lincoln Co., ME, has Gorham Whitney, age 44, Cooper, Olive, Ruth A, Caroline P., Jane M., Frances, Gorham M., Harriet, Chester, and Zylpha Whitney, all born in Maine. The 1860 census for Gardiner lists Olive Whitney, Milliner, age 50 listed with William and Jane Sylvester, along with Frances Whitney, Harriet Whitney, Chester Whitney, Zilpha Whitney, and Ellen Sylvester. The 1870 census of Gardiner, Kennebec Co., Maine Shows William A. Sylvester, age 39, "Works in Saw Mill", and his wife Jane L., age 35 and their children Nelly, Hattie, Winnie, and Willie. Also listed with the family were Nelly Whitney, age 22 and Olive Whitney, Milliner, age 61. All were born in Maine.

vii.	Abel Whitney, b. 16 Sep 1811; d.s.p. 8 Jul 1892, Gardiner, ME; m. 14 Mar 1833, Lydia B. Smith; b. 22 Jul 1808. He was a cooper.
