Roswell Whitney (Leland, Benjamin), son of Leland and Viletta (Pierce) Whitney, was born about 1816, VT, and died between 1870 and 1880.

He married, Submit Grout, daughter of Hudson and Silence (Babcock) Grout. She was born 15 Dec 1824, Stratton, VT, and died after 1880.

Children of Roswell and Submit (Grout) Whitney:

i. Adeline Whitney, b. ca. 1846, VT; "Addie" m. 8 Oct 1867, Dummerston, VT, Warren W. Kerr, son of Valentine Kerr.[1]
ii. Eugene Whitney, b. ca. 1851, VT.
iii. Clara Whitney, b. ca. 1853, VT; m. 18 Dec 1875, Westminster, VT, Jerry Harness, son of Moses and Susie (-----) Harness.[2]
iv. Martha Estella Whitney, b. 21 Nov 1857, Westminster, VT.[3]
