Family:Whitney, Solomon (1721-1758)

Solomon⁵ Whitney (Benjamin⁴, Thomas³, Thomas², John¹), son of Benjamin⁴ and Sarah (Barrett) Whitney was born 20 Dec 1721 at Marlborough, MA^[1] and died 1758^[2], his estate was probated 20 Dec 1737 at Marlborough, MA; Jesse Taylor of Marlborough appointed guardian of Solomon Whintey of Boston (also recorded v. 22, p. 116).

Solomon married Elizabeth Smith 5 Oct 1749 at Marlborough, MA.

He Death not in Petersham Vital Records, but he supposedly died in 1758 and his last child was born in Petersham in 1757.

Elizabeth Smith was born in 1728.

i.	Meriam6 Whitney, b. between 1750 and 11 Apr 1771; b. 31 Jul 1751 at Marlborough, MA; Marriage banns for she and William Bullock were published 29 Sep 1769 at Petersham, MA; husband "of Gilford, Province of N.Y;" d. after 11 Apr 1771; her estate was probated before 11 Apr 1771; had guardian John Stower of Petersham. She was also known as Miriam Whitney.
ii.	Benjamin Whitney, b. between 1750 and 11 Apr 1771; b. 10 Jun 1753 at Marlborough, MA; b. 10 Jun 1753 at Harvard, MA; m. an unknown person circa 1785; d. after 11 Apr 1771; his estate was probated before 11 Apr 1771; had guardian David Sanderson of Petersham. He was also known as Capt. Benjamin Whitney. He Captain Benjamin Whitney served in the Revolution in Petersham Company of Worcester County, Mass., as second Lieutenant under General Lee and was finally commissioned Captain. In the "Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors" record, p. 208 Benjamin Whitney 2nd Lieutenant in Captain Wing Spooner's Company of Minute Men; Colonel Ward's Regiment, marched April 9, 1775. Enlisted April 1775 served 10-1/2 days."**[from State of Vt. Office of Sect'y] "Captain Benjamin Whitney 3rd*Lieutenant in Captain Wing Spooner's 11th Co. Regiment of Massachusetts Militia; Colonel Nathan Sparhawks 7th Worcester County; list of officers chosen by several companies in said Regiment, ordered in Council April 6, 1776; that said officers be commissioned; reported commissioned April 5 1776."**Identity of wife unknown, but something Reyes calls the "death memorandum" states that she was buried in Quebec, Canada. Since her son, Newhall Whitney was in the lumber business in Canada, operating out of and living in Three Rivers (Trois Riviers), perhaps she was living with him at the time of her death and some record of this may be found at that place.
iii.	Job Whitney, b. 25 Jun 1755 at Petersham, MA; d. after 11 Apr 1771; his estate was probated before 11 Apr 1771; had guardian David Sanderson of Petersham. He appeared on the census of 1791 at Guilford, VT; 1 male 16+, 1 male 15-, 6 females. He appeared on the census of 1800 at Guilford, VT; 01201-20000-00.
iv.	Sarah Whitney, b. 11 Aug 1757 at Petersham, MA; Marriage banns for she and Moses Wheeler were published 18 Jan 1792 at Petersham, MA; m. Moses Wheeler 6 Feb 1792 at Phillipston, MA; both "of Petersham;" d. after 11 Apr 1771; her estate was probated before 11 Apr 1771; had guardian John Stower of Petersham.
