Theodore Edward Bliss7 Whitney (Barnard6, William Clark5, Henry4, Josiah3, John2, Henry1), son of Barnard6, was born 19 Oct 1843, Paterson, NJ, and died after Jul 1875.
He married, 23 Sep 1866, Susquehanna Depot, PA, Catharine Harney, daughter of Patrick and Anna (Lennor) Harney.
Phoenix says the following:
- ". . . a silk-worker . . . . They settled at Susquehanna Depot, and were living there in July 1875, when he was employed as a locomotive-engineer. He enlisted at New York City, 25 May 1861, in Co. I, 6th Reg., N. Y. S. Vol. Infantry ("Wilson Zouaves"); and was discharged at New York, 25 June 1863, with his regiment, having taken part in the battle of Santa Rosa Island, the bombardment of Forts McRae and Barancas, and engagements at Port Hudson, Irish Bend, Vermilion Bayou, and other places in the Red River expedition."

i. Sarah Elizabeth8 Whitney, b. 25 May 1869. ii. Charles Dennis Whitney, b. 27 Sep 1871. iii. John Samuel Whitney, b. 27 Sep 1874.

This is pretty clearly the right family, although the father's given name is "Sherman", not "Theodore" or "Edward" or "Bliss". Furthermore, his father was not of foreign birth! Probably Ellen was Ellen Harney, sister of Catharine.
