Family:Whitney, Theodore S. (c1808-a1850)
Theodore S. Whitney, parentage unknown, was born about 1808, Ludlow, MA (but 1850 census says 1811), and died after 1875.
He married firstly, before 1835, ----- -----. She was born 1810-1820, and died between 1840 and 1850.
He married secondly, say 1852, ----- -----. She was born say 1820-1835, and died between 1858 and 1860. She might have been Emily J. Reynolds, born about 1823, NY, daughter of Eli Burton and Anna Hurd (Field) Reynolds, for which see Notes below.
He was engaged in manufacture or trades in 1840, but in 1850 he was a painter.
Theodore S. Whitney enlisted in the U.S. Army, 6 May 1828, at Albany, by Lt. Phillips, for 5 years, in Co. B, 2nd Infantry, age 21, blue eyes, black hair, dark complexion, 5 feet 8 inches tall, born Ludlow, MA, farmer, but deserted 8 Jun 1829.[1]

Notes
The Mary A. Waldron, aged 33 in 1850, seems likely to be the same person as Mary Ann Morgan, aged 43 in 1860, 49 in 1865, and 54 in 1870. She is called his sister in 1865. She could have been a sister of Theodore S., or of his first wife. Her maiden name could have been Waldron, or it could have been Whitney or Morgan, and Waldron a husband from whom she was divorced. If she was a widow, who her Morgan husband had been is unknown. Her death has not been found.
The identity of Mariah P. Whitney, called Anna's aunt in 1900, has not been found. She could have been the same as Maria F. Reynolds, daughter of Eli Burton and Anna Hurd (Field) Reynolds, who was living with the family in 1870-1892. That would imply that Theodore's second wife was a Reynolds. Mariah F. and Mary Ann Reynolds did have another sister, Emily J. Reynolds, b. ca. 1824, NY. The given name "Burton" is significant, since the Reynolds sisters had a brother Eli Burton Reynolds, and their paternal grandmother was Mary (Burton) Reynolds. The daughter Emily Whitney would have been named after Emily J. Burton, and her daughter Anna Whitney would have been named after Emily J. Burton's mother.
