Theophilus D.⁸ Whitney (Theophilus⁷ Hoar alias Whitney, Abigail⁶, Jonathan⁵, Jonathan⁴, Richard³, Richard², John¹), son of Theophilus⁷ and [?Anna?] (-----) Whitney, was born about 1824, NY, and died 31 Mar 1882, Indianapolis, IN. He was buried in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN.^[1]

He married, 27 Mar 1861, Cass Co., IN, Elizabeth (Martin) Kenton,^[2] daughter of James H. and Catherine (Hess) Martin. She was born 22 Jan 1835, Waldo, OH, and died Jul 1910, Indianapolis, IN. She was buried 30 Jul 1910, Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN.^[3] She had married firstly, before 1858, Cyrus Kenton, born about 1836, Darke Co., OH, and apparently died between about late 1860.

He enlisted 5 Aug 1862, Indianapolis, IN, in Co. I, 63rd Indiana Volunteer Cavalry. Transferred 24 Oct 1863 to 121st Regiment, Field & Staff to accept a commission in the 9th Indiana Volunteer Cavalry. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and Quarter Master. He was discharged 4 Mar 1865.^[4]
