Timothy6 Whitney (Timothy5, Jonas4, Moses3, Richard2, John1), son of Timothy5 and Alice (Whitney) Whitney,[1] was born 22 Apr 1764 [Pierce], or 22 Apr 1766, Petersham, MA,[2] and died 14 Feb 1841, Lanesborough, MA.

He married firstly, 20 Apr 1790, Lenox, MA, Lois Baker. She was born 30 May 1770, and died 2 Mar 1826.

He married secondly, Mrs. Smith.

Timothy Whitney was born in Petersham, MA, but moved to Lanesborough early in life. He had all his children by his first wife, Lois Baker. He was a medium sized man, rather stocky in his old age, bald-headed, blue-eyed, very amiable, and fond of children, jolly, popular, and respected. He was the chief merchant in Lanesborough and postmaster for many years; also Register of Deeds for Berkshire County. He was a fine penman, accurate, and methodical. Was a prominent member of the Congregational Church. He resided Petersham, Otis, and Lanesborough, MA.

ii. Sophia Whitney, b. 18 Feb 1796, Lanesborough, MA;[5] "Sophia (Whitney) Habbard" d. 7 or 9 Sep 1863, Pittsfield, MA, aged 67 years, of typhoid fever;page 50 m. Henry Hubbard. He was born 22 May 1783, Sheffield, MA; d. 25 Dec 1863. He was a leading lawyer there. Children:
a. Henry Hubbard, b. 21 Jan 1816; d. unknown.
b. Douglas S. Hubbard, b. 21 Jan 1817; d. 19 Sep 1885. Children:
1. Agnes Hubbard, b. -----; res. Brooklyn, NY
c. John W. Hubbard, b. 9 Jan 1819; res. Waterville, NY.
d. Sophia Hubbard, b. 2 Apr 1820; d. 21 Mar 1826.
e. Elizabeth A. Hubbard, b. 1 May 1822; m. Jun 1864, Albany, NY, Joseph E. A. Smith, b. 4 Feb 1822. He is the well known historian; res. Pittsfield, MA.
f. Frances Hubbard, b. 9 Sep 1825; d. 1825.
g. Fred Hubbard, b. 1 Nov 1826; d. Jan 1890. Children:
1. Harry T. Hubbard, b. -----; res. New York, NY.
iii. Franklin Whitney, b. 18 Nov 1797, Lanesborough, MA;[6] d. 1 Nov 1803, Lanesborough, MA.[7]

v. Eliza Whitney, b. 18 Sep 1802, Lanesborough, MA;[9] d. 8 Mar 1826, Lanesborough, MA;[10] m. 1823, Socrates Squier. Children:
a. George L. Squier, b. 1824. He resides in Buffalo, NY; is president of the George L. Squier Mfg. Company, manufacturers of sugar, rice, and coffee machinery, agricultural implements, and mill engines.
vi. Frances Adelia Whitney, b. 13 Oct 1806, Lanesborough, MA;[11] d. 1874, Toledo, Ohio; m.(1) 19 Feb or 26 May 1825, Lanesborough, MA, Richard Allen Gustin, d. 1 or 23 Jun 1825, Lanesborough, MA, aged 21 years 6 months, son of John Gustin, Esq., of Augusta, NJ; bur. Center Cemetery, Lanesborough, MA;[12] m. (2) Obed Marshall. He was born 30 Oct. 1808, Nantucket, Mass., the son of Thomas Marshall and Sally (Gardner) Marshall; d. c. May 1838, alleged to have drowned in the Mississippi River. He was a doctor who moved west and established a homestead at Lake Lansing, MI, with his brother Thomas, leaving Frances (who was pregnant at the time) and daughter Sarah behind with Frances' sister Sophia (Whitney) Hubbard and her husband in Pittsfield, MA. Obed died before he could come back for Frances and their children. Children:
a. Sarah Frances Marshall, b. 30 May 1836, Charlestown, MA; d. 16 May 1923, Glen Ridge, NJ; m.(1) 24 Nov. 1862, Pittsfield, MA, Nehemiah Waterman (1839-1872), m.(2) 14 Dec 1874, John Hyde Peck (1838-1911), residing in New Britain, CT.
b. Helen Elizabeth Marshall, b. 8 May 1837, Pittsfield, MA.
