Vespasian Ward8 Whitney (Ward7, Abel6, Timothy5, Jonas4, Moses3, Richard2, John1), son of Ward7 and Katherine (Cook) Whitney, was born 1 Jan 1830, Shrewsbury, VT, and died 30 Apr 1892, Hamilton Co., NE. He was buried in Case Cemetery, Hamilton Co., NE.[1]

He married, 11 Oct 1854, Athens, OH, Margaret Jane Herron, daughter of William Jefferson and Elizabeth (Little) Herron. She was born about 1834, OH, and died after 1880.

Enlisted in Co. A, Wisconsin 25th Infantry on 14 Aug 1862. Mustered out on 26 May 1865.

He was a member of G.A.R. Post 65, Doniphan, NE.

Children of Vespasian Ward8 and Margaret Jane (Herron) Whitney:

i. William S.9 Whitney, b. ca. 1856, OH; d. after 1880.
ii. Harriet Whitney, b. ca. 1858, WI; not in family in 1870.
iii. Jane Whitney, b. ca. 1861, WI; not in family in 1880.
iv. Ella Whitney, b. ca. 1863, WI; not in family in 1880.
v. Ellis V. Whitney, b. ca. 1864, WI.
vi. Elmer W. Whitney, b. ca. 1864, WI; d. after 1930; m. before 1893, Nora L. Brewer.

Notes

It is said that he probably married secondly, 22 Nov 1881, Adams Co., NE, Charlotte (-----) Innis. She was born about 1841, IL or AR. She had married firstly, about 1860, probably in Fayette Co., IA, James A. Innis, who died between 1873 and 1880.

This seems doubtful, since Innis's widow apparently married someone else.
