William6 Whitney (Abner5, John4, Isaiah3, Thomas2, John1), son of Abner5 and Sarah (Hilton) Whitney, was born 15 Sep 1765, Shirley, MA, baptized Aug 1769, Shirley, MA,[1] and died 22 Mar 1836, Standish, ME. He was buried in the Moses Cemetery, River Road, South Standish, ME.

Marriage intentions were published 26 Aug 1792, Limington, ME, for him and Hannah Bangs "of Gorham".[2] He "of Limington" married, 11 Oct 1792, Gorham, ME, Hannah Bangs, by Rev. Caleb Jewett,[3] daughter of Heman and Molly (Wood) Bangs. She was born 19 Apr 1775, Gorham, ME, and died 15 Dec 1861, Standish, ME.

Living in Limington at time of its incorporation in 1792 (Ridlon, Gideon, Saco Valley Settlememts and Families) and at the time of his marriage. Moved to Standish in 1796. In 1801 bought 35 acres of land from John Marean at lot #113, located on a range road running between the Saco Road and the River Road and once known as the Whitney Road but later changed to Milt Brown Road. iii. Sarah H. Whitney, b. about 1800; m. ("of Standish" int. 18 May 1834, Standish, ME[6]), John West "of Sebago", as his second wife.
iv. Abner Whitney, b. about 1802; m. Annis M. Phinney.
v. Thankful Hannah Whitney, b. 14 Oct 1805, Standish, ME; d. 6 Jul 1841, Standish, ME, aged 38 years 8 months 22 days; m. (int. 8 Nov 1834, Standish, ME[7]) -- Nov 1834, Standish, ME, Nicholas Stickney Burnham "both of Standish", as his second wife.
vi. Heman B. Whitney, b. 5 Nov 1807, Standish, ME; d. 24 Feb 1874, Standish, ME; unmarried. Farmer, lived all his life on the family homestead.
vii. Hannah Bangs Whitney, b. 31 Oct 1810, Standish, ME; d. 8 Dec 1886, Standish, ME; m. ("of Standish" int. 6 Dec 1834, Standish, ME[8]) 31 Dec 1834, Standish, ME, Isaac L. Johnson "of Buxton".
