William8 Whitney (John7, Phinehas6 Whitney, Samuel5, William4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of John7 and Sarah (Chapman) Whitney, was born 13 May 1823, Waterford, Washington County, Ohio, and died 1900, Clover Township, Henry County, Illinois.

He married, 15 Feb 1844, Morgan County, Ohio, Jane Cheffey. She was born 18 Jun 1821, Virginia, and died 28 Aug 1885, Clover Township, Henry County, .

The 1880 Census of Illinois, Henry County, Clover Township, shows on p. 207D:

and continued on p. 208A:

Chas. E. WHITNEY    Son    Male   W 16 IL  Farm Hand      OH  OH

Both are buried in the Clover Chapel Cemetery, Clover Township, Henry County, Illinois.

From the History of Henry County, Illinois (1910), p. 205:

"Wm. Whitney, b. May 13, 1823, Washington Co, Ohio, to John and Sarah, natives of Massachusetts. (John died in 1849). Wm married Jane Cheffy, of VA. They purchased land and lived in DeKalb County, Winnebago County, and Clover Twp. Henry County, IL. Wm was a member of the Christian church, Masonic Order, served one term as school director, one term as Path Master. Wm. and Jane had 6 children: George W. (married Harriet Osburn), Sarah (m. James Woodworth), and Charles E.(m. Lura Mosher) and other children deceased."

ii. Hannah Whitney, b. 1841, Ohio; no further record, but died before 1910.
iii. Kate I. Whitney, b. 1846, Ohio; no further record, but died before 1910.
iv. John P. Whitney, b. 1847, Ohio; no further record, but died before 1910.
v. George W. Whitney, b. 1849, Ohio; d. 1899, Illinois; m. 1873, Ohio, Harriet R. Osborne. She was b. 1847, Ohio, and d. after 1910, Illinois. Both are buried in Clover Chapel Cemetery, Clover Township, Henry County, Illinois. The 1880 Census of Illinois, Henry County, Clover Township, shows on p. 208A:
