William Whitney (William) son of William and Sarah (Compton) Whitney was born 1829 in Lexington, KY^[1] and died 15 Aug 1870^[2]. The 1850 census lists him as age 26 (b. ca. 1824), Louisiana.

William married 9 Jul 1847 Azelie Eulalie Gauthreaux. She was born 11 Feb 1829 (1860 census says ca. 1823), died after 1860.

They had a family of 8 - 5 males and 3 females.
