William G.7 Whitney (Solomon6, Joseph5, Abel4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Solomon6 and Phebe (Gilkey) Whitney, was born 21 May 1815, Unity, ME,[1] and died 10 Jul 1902, Augusta, ME. He died at the Maine Insane Hospital, where he had resided for 2 weeks. He previously resided at Pittsfield, ME.

Marriage intentions were filed 10 May 1844, Troy, ME, for him "Mr." "of Troy" and "Miss" Esther Chase "of Unity".[2] He "of Troy" married firstly, 9 June 1844, Unity, ME, Esther Chase "of Unity",[3] daughter of Hezekiah and Sarah (Gilkey) Chase. She was born 21 Nov 1817, and died 5 Apr 1874, Unity, ME, and is buried in the Unity Pond Cemetery in Unity, ME, but said died 19 Mar 1874, Troy, ME.[4]

He "of Troy" married secondly, 24 Sep 1877, Canaan, ME, Sarah E. (Carr) Newcomb "of Pittsfield",[5] daughter of Joseph and Mary (McAllister) Carr. She was born 29 Nov 1827, Jefferson, ME, and died 12 Mar 1902, Pittsfield, ME. She had married firstly, 24 Sep 1848, Waldo Co., ME, William John Newcomb (1822-1867).

William was a farmer. His earmark was recorded as follows: "a swallows tail in the right ear, [17 Jan 1842]."[6]

i. Sarah8 Whitney, b. ca. 1839, ME; d. after 1850; not found later, so may have married or died before 1860.
ii. (foster child) Charles Edward Hill Whitney, b. ca. 1849, Troy, ME; m. Elizabeth E. "Nellie" Gilpatrick.
