William Henry A.8 Whitney (Peleg Tallman7, Benjamin6, Abraham5, Benjamin4, John3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Peleg Tallman7 and Mary E. (Varney) Whitney, was born 21 Apr 1843, ME, and died 11 Mar 1905, Bangor, ME. He was buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor, ME.[1]

In most records he is called simply Henry A. Whitney. The exceptions are the 1850 census and his marriage record.

He married, 28 Nov 1867, Penobscot Co., ME, Maryetta Lockwood, daughter of Seth and Julia (?Foster?) Lockwood. She was born about 1847-8, Amherst, ME, and died 15 Apr 1915, Bangor, ME. She was buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor, ME.[2]

He resided Orono, ME.

He served as a Private, Corporal, Sergeant, and Quartermaster's Sergeant in the Civil War in Co. A, 15th Maine Infantry, enlisted 7 Nov 1861, discharged 5 Jul 1866. Henry A. and Marietta Whitney each received a pension from the U. S. government as a result of his service in the Civil War.
