Hudson Post, 8 Nov 1901: "George Whitney, 93, died at his home in Wheatland Oct 26, 1901. Born in Seneca Castle, Ontario Co., NY, April 1, 1808. Married in Benton, Yates Co, NY, to Miss Dolly Barden, of that place, March 20, 1834. Came to Michigan in the May following settling in York, Washtenaw Co. Came to this area in 1841. Had 7 children, 3 of whom died in infancy, 4 grew to maturity; 3 are still living; one son and two daughters. Their mother died 9 years ago. Her 3 sisters are living in the state of New York. His son Barden and dau, Miss Emily, cared for him during his last illness. He came of military stock; his grandfather was a Revolutionary soldier; his father served in the war of 1812-14, and he himself was an officer in the Michigan Militia in his earlier life. Funeral services in Baptist church in Rollin."

Hudson Post, 17 Mar 1893: "Funeral of Martin Whitney held Wed at his home. His wife is very ill. Church’s Corners Mar 24—Geo Whitney’s family have been severely afflicted the past winter. Several weeks ago the son, Martin, badly froze his feet, & finally gangrene set in, which with other complications caused his death last week. Soon after the son froze his feet, his mother fell & broke her hip, which resulted in her death Mon of this week. Funeral held at church in Rollin. Rollin [sic] Youngest son of Geo & Dolly B Whitney, born in York twp, Washtenaw co, Mi, Ap 18, 1841, & Moved with parents to their home in Wheatland at 3 weeks. Died Mar 12, aged 51 yr, 10 mo & 24 da."
