Whitney" <jwhitney -at- megabits.net> Subject: John Whitney, Maine Date: Wed, 13 Aug 1997 18:36:24 -0400 Seek ancestors, siblings, and first marriage of John Whitney, who according to the 1850 St. Johns County Fla Census , said he was born in Maine and was 50 years old. He married Mahala Clark at Harpswell, Cumberland, Maine in June, 1845 and arrived in Savannah, Ga, late November or early December 1845 while enroute to Florida. They first settled at Picolata (St. Johns County) and later moved south east near the coast to farm. Mahala's mother was Lucinda Clark who married David Orr of Orr's Island in 1843. The had at least one son named Harmon. John's occupation in 1850 was carpenter and in 1860 he listed as a farmer. Any information or clues to his relatives will be deeply appreciated. John L.
