This is copied from &quot;Newtown's History&quot; by Eliza Jane Johnson, 1917, p. 149:

Whitney
1. James Whitney came to Newtown in 1771. He m. Eunice Johnson.  Of their
twelve children only Philo lived in Newtown.  He was a blacksmith, his shop
being at the head of Newtown street at the foot of Mt. Pleasant.  Ives Glover
the well known blacksmith of South Center learned his trade of him.
