From: D&M&B&L Carter-Whitney <carterw -at- interlog.com> Subject: Looking For Artemus & relatives Date: Sun, 09 Nov 1997 20:55:46 Greetings all! I am new to the group but would like anyone's help in placing my family in the Whitneys that were in Royalston, Mass in the early 1800s. We have traced back to Artemus N. Whitney (see data below) but have not been able to determine who his parents were. Here is the information I have: Artemus N. Whitney (not sure what the N. stands for) Born: March 15, 1815 South Royalston, Mass Moved: 1)to Yarmouth, Upper Canada (now Ontario - near St. Thomas) 1840 2) to Michigan (first location uncertain - to Cedar Springs 1870) Married: 1844 to Caroline Brush (b: 1820/21, d: Dec 1, 1893) in Yarmouth, U.C. Died: November 10, 1892 Cedar Springs, Mich. Children: one son Herschel H. Whitney Born: 1845 (or perhaps 46), Yarmouth, Upper Canada Married: July 4, 1871 to Ida Brickley (b: 1850?, d:Aug 29, 1888) Died: April 11, 1906 Grand Rapids, Michigan Children: one son - Hebert C. Whitney (he used the C. but there was no given middle name) Born: February 3, 1971/72? Died: October 27, 1937 There is another Whitney family member of interest here: Stilman Whitney (son of Edward and Rhoda) was born on March 14, 1815 in Royalston (he appears in the census records online). He also moves to Yarmouth, U.C. in 1840 (is shown on land records - Artemus isn't), disposes of his land in 1844 and moves to Michigan. He dies in 1870 (approx) in the Grand Rapids area as well I believe. Given the proximity of ages and travel locations, they surely were travelling together and it is quite possible that they were closely related. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
