This civilian registration is often confused with induction into the military; however, a minority of the civilian men who registered were actually never called up for military service. During these two years, three registration days were held in which the registrants completed a registration card that generally included, among other information, birth date, birth location, father's birth location, and the address of next of kin. This updated file adds over 200,000 names to the previous database, bringing the total number of names provided to almost 900,000. It adds information from Alabama, Arkansas, Hawaii, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, and Vermont. Bibliography: Banks, Ray.
