From: <GailWaters -at- aol.com> Subject: [WHITNEY-L] Old Letters Date: Sun, 20 Jun 1999 19:56:57 EDT My family, too, has a number of old letters written to Mary Adelaide (Addie) Whitney. Addie was married first to a man named Dickinson, and second to a man named Edward Foster. She was the daughter of William W. Whitney (b. 3/25/1836 in Ontario, Canada) and Elizabeth C. Berry (b. in Darke County, Ohio). William W. Whitney lived in Ontario until 1849 when he was 13 when the family moved to Jackson Co, Michigan, and later to Ingham Co, MI. Around 1857 when William W. was the age of 21, he went to Whiteside County, IL. William and Elizabeth married in Whiteside County, IL, in 1858. In 1862, William entered the Civil War (Company B, 75th, Illinois Volunteer Infantry). He returned to Illinois, to Bureau County, living there until 1867 when they moved to Franklin County, Iowa. Six years later he went to Cass County, Iowa, and in 1881 the family moved to Center Township, Pottawattamie County, Iowa, where they were still residing in 1891. William W. Whitney's obituary lists the following for his siblings: Ferdenand S. of Iowa (Uncle Ferd), Joanna Rundall of Michigan, Mrs. H. E. Kneeland of Toledo, Ohio, Mrs. Adel Wisner of Long Island, NY, and Mrs. Georgie Hunter of Mason, Michigan. Here are some of the names in the letters that we cannot connect to the family.
